The Cabernet is grown on the west bench of Dry Creek Valley and was planted in 1982 by Jim Guadagnia an old time traditional grape grower who was born in Dry Creek Valley and lived his entire life there. The vineyard was planted in the traditional style using St. George rootstock and dry farmed. Stephen Scharf bought the vineyard in 1982 and immediately started working with Jim to preserve the traditions and traditional farming philosophy of the land and area. The age of these Cabernet Sauvignon vines and meticulous farming of the Scharf family alongside their vineyard manager John Clendenen has made this a world class vineyard that produces wines that are true to the site. The west bench of Dry Creek Valley boasts rolling hills with the famous volcanic “red soils” that put Dry Creek on the map. Cabs from this appellation are
typically more elegant with brighter red fruits. Wine made from the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the Scharf family vineyard have won gold medals at top wine competitions for three
decades.
